Hey guys!
We hope you had a fun, photography-filled month of November. We definitely did at SJ. But we'll get to that later.
Last month, we started off with how to become a mobile photographer. Once you start your photography journey (which we hope we've been able to convince you to), it's only natural to want to specialize. You can read our first issue here if you are yet to.
Photography is a very broad art with a whole lot of niches under it. You have the liberty to explore various niches until you find one that best suits the identity you want for yourself. Or, you could decide to try out different styles and not stick to a particular one. You make your own rules, right? So we're going to consider some of the various niches in photography.
A niche basically is a specialized or focused area of a broader market/art that you serve specifically.
Photography niches include:
1. Portrait photography:

This popular style of photography is all about capturing people and their personalities. It's a style of photography that tries to capture human feelings, emotions, etc., in a photograph and this is done with the aid of tweaked lighting, backdrops, poses, etc.
2. Street photography:

Street photography is a genre of photography that captures the day-to-day life of people in a public setting. However, street photography may also be devoid of people and be filled with objects or an environment associated with human presence.
3. Nature photography:

This is a form of photography dedicated to capturing aspects of nature such as plants, habitats, insects, forests, anything in nature. It's easy to see why this could be one of the most beautiful forms of photography.
4. Food photography:

Food photography is a photography genre used to create amazing pictures of food. Food photography brings out the hidden details in food we often overlook - the textures, the colors, food composition, plating, etc.
5. Landscape Photography:

This is a style of photography that captures the outdoor or the environment in a captivating way. You know those beautiful pictures of lakes, hills, bridges, etc., you see? Those are examples of landscape photography.
6. Product Photography:

This is a niche of photography that has gained recognition in recent times. This form of photography is used to create images that help businesses drive sales. Images here are created to spur the consumer to want to buy one's product.
7. Architectural Photography:

Here, focus is on photographing buildings and similar architectural structures. Focus is placed on bringing out the intricacies of each structure while making sure of their aesthetic appeal.
These are just a few of the many niches in photography.
Now you might be wondering, how do you decide what niche to focus on?
This depends mainly on why you're taking pictures.
If photography is simply a hobby, then find out what you like to photograph (you can look through your pictures and see what you capture most) and then you can choose to specialize in it.
If you're looking to make a career or to monetize your photography skills, you have to select a niche that generates pay and is suitable for your location.
If your niche of interest does not seem to be profitable, you could look into working in other niches, while maintaining your niche of interest as a hobby.
It's also important to mention that you can have more than one niche.
